Joe Arsenault, A Flora of New Jersey Project member, will be leading two field trips in South Jersey during 2012. Both outings are joint trips with the Philadelphia Botanical Club. Kew Herbarium Techniques Course Offered
The Kew Herbarium, the Royal Botanical Gardens' scientific center, is offering the Kew International Diploma Course in Herbarium Techniques in New York August 2012. This two-week session would be held in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden and taught by instructors from Kew and include a session on SPECIFY database, taught by Dr. Andrew Bentley. Well NJ Flora enthusiasts, the 2011 growing season has all but come to a close. The leaves have fallen in all of our southern counties and the Tipularia leaves are visible again: the two signs that say to me its time to brush up on your winter botany skills. New Species of Lichen Named for PANS Botanist
A new species of lichen has been discovered in Pennsylvania and its name will honor one of our FNJP friends, Dr. Alfred E. Schuyer. Ernie, as he is known to friends, is the botanist emeritus at the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Science. Ernie's contributions have spanned decades and is our best when it comes to for sedges, grasses, and all things aquatic.
