Dr. Stevens Heckscher is a founding member of FNJP and is a memeber of FNJP’s executive board.  Dr. Heckscher received his doctorate in mathematics from Harvard University and describes himself as a hybrid between a mathematician and an ecologist.  He specializes in classification and description of plant communities using powerful computer tools, and is currently working on research projects in New Jersey and the Florida Keys.  He retired from the Natural Lands Trust of Media, PA, in 2003, and is the former Vice-chair of the Flora of New Jersey Project (2004 – 2012).  He was lead author of a recent paper on the Burden Hill Forest in Salem County, NJ, which has been reproduced elsewhere on this website.  Dr. Heckscher is the contributing author of the Holly Family (Aquifoliaceae) for the FNJ Project and trustee for the non profit corporation.

Stevens can be contacted at sheckscher103@comcast.net or write a note in the space provided below.
