After many years of field observations, detailed land surveys, and extensive deliberations, the publication, Burden Hill Forest: A Relict New Jersey Outer Coastal Plain Woodland written by Joe Arsenault and Ted Gordon is now available on this web site.
Ted and Joe’s understanding of the landscape, its geology, and the resulting flora make compelling argument that earlier descriptions of the region misunderstood the region, often assigning the acronym Pine Barren Outlier when in fact it is a separate Outer Coastal Plain woodland with affinities to both Inner and Outer Coastal Plain flora. This new paper is based on the inspection of hundreds of acres within the Quinton/Alloway landscape, and decades of experience studying the Flora of Southern New Jersey. Enjoy.
