Attention New Jersey and other NYC regional botanists, or anyone interested in the flora of the New York City metropolitan area.
The BBG science personnel and the programs they administer need our help. Word has been spreading in the botanical community about the planned closure of the BBG science program. This will include the inhouse reseach and behind the scene work as well as public access and participation. The woody plant atlas will no longer have inputs and all the good work done by the BBG botanists could be in jepoardy.
The AIBS Web feed posted in August (FNJP home page, lower right) on the importance of science collections is relevant to this BBG closure because the world famous herbarium will be affected by the BBG actions.
A petetion is circulating and can be read at:

This will provide a place you can sign on to to show support for this regionally important botanical program.
